Description

​Degree programme in International Logistics provides students knowledge and skills to engineer, execute and manage logistics activities in global marketplace.

Degree-related qualifications

There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.

Targeted competence

Graduated student can work as a logistics specialist or a manager in the fields of industry, trade, services, authorities or training in global marketplace. She/he has learned sustainable and responsible way of thinking and working when managing logistics processes such as sales, production, purchasing, warehousing and transportation. Student has learned to work in naturally international environment and to use English language as a language for studying and working.

Learning outcomes are knowledge and skills that students achieve during the education. Learning outcomes of Logistics Engineering can be categorized according to international quality criteria of engineering education (EUR-ACE) into: Knowledge and Understanding, Engineering Analysis, Engineering Design, Investigations, Engineering Practice and Transferable Skills.

Learning outcomes can be categorized also from professional logistics point of view as follows: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Purchasing, Warehousing and Materials Management, Transportation, Production Logistics, Information Logistics, Economic Skills and Management Skills.

Each course of International Logistics offers a student learning outcomes from both international quality criteria of engineering (EUR-ACE) point of view as well as from logistics point of view.

Degree profile

​The programme consist of mandatory basic studies, mandatory professional studies, optional professional studies, elective studies, practical training and final thesis.

Mandatory basic studies are modules of transferable skills, natural sciences and engineering studies.

Mandatory professional studies consist of module economy and management. As a major studies students will study the module of global logistics operations. As optional minor studies students may choose to specialise into two (2) modules of: ​purchasing, industrial logistics management, entrepreneurship or some module from other JAMK's degree programmes or from JAMK's partner Universities worldwide.

Practical training is done normally during the summer semesters and final thesis in the final part of the studies.

Structure and completion of studies

​The programme consist of courses. Pedagogical methods varies between the courses. Each course may content contact lessons, virtual learnings, individual and group assignments, project works for companies, study tours, laboratories, games or exams. Also future factory methodologies may be used in purposeful learning moments.

Courses are structured in modules. Transferable skills consist of common studies like communication skills, languages and basic courses for entrepreneurship. Natural sciences and engineering modules consist of the courses that build the engineering civilization for students curriculum. Economy and management and global logistics operations are the modules that build the professional logistics understanding in curriculum. Student has possibility to specialise in his/her studies selecting minors among purchasing, industrial logistics management, entrepreneurship and studies from International Business programme or from studies abroad from JAMK:s co-operation universities during the exchange period.

International Logistics

In addition, students may complete a part of their studies in the shared entrepreneurship development environment for the entire JAMK, or by participating in the labs of the Future Factory operation model. The focus of these studies is on deepening innovation and development competence.

Assessment and learning guidance

Graduation

Being awarded a Bachelor’s degree certificate requires the student to complete the studies of the degree programme within his/her study period in accordance with his/her Personal Learning Plan. Further information in the Degree Regulations.

Professional profiles of graduates with examples

Graduated logistics professional may work in the fields of industry, trade, services, and public sector. She/he may work as a specialist or in managerial positions in engineering, executing and managing logistics processes of purchasing, sales, production, warehousing, transportation or information logistics.

The job title can be for example logistic planner, logistic manager, purchase engineer, purchaser, purchase manager, terminal manager, production engineer, transportation manager, warehouse manager, entrepreneur, consultant or educator.

Further studies

University of Applied Sciences offers various opportunities for studying and learning throughout one's career. These include Master's Degree studies, specialisation studies, diplomas of higher education, the extensive range of courses offered through open studies and continuing education.

The student who has graduated with a Bachelor's degree may continue his/her studies in a Master's degree programme after gaining at least three years of work experience. A Master's degree from a university of applied sciences is a higher post-secondary degree. Studies can also be continued by applying for a university Master's degree programme or similar programmes. After a Bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences, it is also possible to continue studies at higher education institutes abroad in Master's degree level programmes.

A student who completes a Master's degree may receive an opportunity for further studies in science or arts at universities (Section 37/558/2009). All further studies must be applied for separately.

Planning

​The programme has an advisory board which consist of company representatives, co-operation university representative, student member, authorities and logistics faculty representatives. The role of advisory board is to ensure that the content of the programme is high quality and suitable for future professional field of logistics.

The programme is accredited according to international engineering education standards (EUR-ACE). The programme follows the quality criteria of EUR-ACE and continuously improves the content and pedagogical methods used in education.
