How much is the tuition fee at JAMK?

The tuition fees of JAMK University of Applied Sciences for non-EU/EEA citizens are

  • €8,000/academic year for bachelor's degrees taught in English (Nursing, International Logistics, Tourism Management and International Business)
  • €9,000/academic year for master's degrees taught in English (Cyber Security, Full Stack Software Development, International Business Management and Sport Business Management).

The tuition fee entitles the student to study and receive a degree and to use the general support services available for students at JAMK. However, all students have to buy books and other educational material themselves as well as take care of their own travelling and living costs.

Average monthly living costs for students are estimated to be about 700 euros (accommodation, food, public transport, study materials, clothing, and leisure activities).

When to pay the tuition fee and how to get a scholarship?

First year students

At JAMK, all the first-year students, who are required to pay the tuition fee, will be granted a scholarship, which covers 50 % of the annual tuition fee. In the joint application, the scholarship application can be filled as a part of the application form at studyinfo.fi.

Applicants who are required to pay the tuition fee will receive the admission letter and instructions how to pay the first-years tuition fee by 28th of June 2019. The deadline to accept the study place, to pay the tuition fee and enroll for the academic year is 8 July 2019.

The admission of the student is conditional until:

  • the tuition fee is paid and JAMK has received a confirmation of the payment
  • the student has confirmed her/his study place
  • the student has enrolled for the academic year
  • the student has signed the Student Agreement
  • the student has provided and JAMK has checked the applicant’s original school-leaving diploma and other relevant certificates

JAMK University of Applied Sciences will withdraw the study right:

  • if the applicant does not pay the tuition fee by the given deadline
  • if the applicant does not enroll for the academic year

If the applicant does not provide the above-mentioned school and other relevant certificates JAMK withdraws the study place. The decision shall be notified to a student and to the Finnish immigration service.

If a student who is required to pay a tuition fee does not receive a visa to study in Finland, the previously paid tuition fee is reimbursed. In this case, JAMK needs an official decision from the Finnish immigration service of the declined visa application before the tuition fee is paid back for the student. The refund is made only within two semesters, thus, if an applicant does not send the declined visa decision for JAMK within two semesters, the paid tuition fee is not returned to the applicant.

Tuition fees and scholarships after the first year

In the following academic years JAMK University of Applied Sciences will grant a scholarship, which covers 50 % of the tuition fee, if the student earns at least 60 credits per academic year in Bachelor's degrees (30 credits per academic year in Master's degrees). If the student has attended only for one semester, the minimum required amount of studies for the scholarship is 30 credits (15 credits in the master's degrees). The scholarship can be received only for the standard study period (in Bachelor’s degree programmes International Business, Tourism Management and Nursing for 3,5 years and in International Logistics for 4 years. In a Master’s Degree programmes of Cyber Security and Full Stack Sotfware Development for 2 years and International Business Management & Sport Business Management for 2nd and 3rd academic year) and only for the semesters a student has enrolled for attendance. Consequently, the fee must be paid for each semester and academic year for which the student enrolls as attending student, including any extension period.

The next years tuition fee is paid by 31st of May, at this point a student pays 50 % of the next years’ tuition fee. On the 15th of August, it will be checked, how many credits a student has completed during the previous academic year. If a student has completed 60 credits (30 credits in Master's degrees) or more, one is granted a scholarship and she/he does not have to pay the rest of the tuition fee*. If the student has attended only for one semester, the minimum required amount of studies for the scholarship is 30 credits (15 in the master's degrees). If a student has completed less than required, one needs to pay the rest of the tuition fee by the 31st of August.

*the credits are counted cumulatively in the bachelor's and master's degrees. In the bachelor's degrees a student must have 60 credits after the first year, 120 after the second and 180 after the third academic year OR at least 60 credits during the previous academic year. For example, a second year student will receive a scholarship if he has studied 80 credits during the first year and 40 credits during the second year (= 120 ECTS credits after the 2nd year).

If a student does not pay 50 % of the tuition fee by the end of May (or the later 50% payment by the end of August), one will lose her/his study entitlement. The decision shall be notified to a student and to the Finnish immigration service. The study entitlement can be regained by submitting an application to regain the study entitlement and paying the application handling fee 50 euros and tuition fee. If a student interrupts his/her studies in the middle of the academic year, the tuition fee is not reimbursed.
