Targeted competence

Intended learning outcomes are a statement of what a student will know and be able to do at the end of a programme. In case of IB the programme level intended learning outcomes are divided into categories of Knowledge and Understanding​, Intellectual Skills, Practical Skills and Transferable Skills.

Knowledge and understanding

Upon the completion of the programme a student is able to 

  • employ theoretical and conceptual knowledge to identify and analyze business problems in global contexts

  • identify and place into practice information-based decision making approaches to business and managerial problems.

Practical Skills: Intercultural Competency

Upon the completion of the programme a student is able to

  • apply proven theoretical and conceptual  knowledge of global business challenges in multicultural contexts

  • operate effectively within a multicultural team environment demonstrating team-building and intercultural communication skills.

Intellectual skills: Information Management in Business

Upon the completion of the programme a student is able to

  • gather, analyse and evaluate business data and information and transform empirical data into uselful and actionable information

  • interprete and analyse complex business issues from multiple perspectives and critically review academic literature and other relevant information resources.

Transferable Skills: Intercultural Communication in Business

Upon the completion of the programme a student is able to

  • communicate effectively in English in oral, written and electronic formats using communication and information technology for business applications, and is able to prepare and present reports

  • exercise initiative and take personal responsibility for one´s own work in terms of timelines, professional behaviour, personal motivation and planning skills.

Degree profile

​After first year basic studies a student may choose more professionally focused studies and academic tracks from a number of alternatives in the second academic year at JAMK.  A student will also complete the bachelor's thesis in the second academic year. While on exchange in the third year of studies a student can choose specialisations at our international partner institutions on every continent.

Students will also work on company projects and complete their practical training to achieving their personal goals.​​​

Structure and completion of studies

​In semester 1 - 4 student will study required business studies and complete the their bachelor's thesis in their selected academic track. Semster 5 - 7 are reserved for individual spesialisation including exchange abroad, specialisation studies and practical training.

Graduation

Being awarded a Bachelor’s degree certificate requires the student to complete the studies of the degree programme within his/her study period in accordance with his/her Personal Learning Plan. Further information in the Degree Regulations.

Professional profiles of graduates with examples

We focus on global perspectives pertaining to the operation of a modern company, including internationalisation, marketing, strategic management, financial and legal issues. Our students will learn to recognise and leverage new business opportunities as means to increasing profitability.

The career opportunities may include: 

Global Business and Sales Manager, Trade Consultant, International Project Manager, International Marketing Manager, Human Resource Manager, Artist Manager, Promotor, Agent, Publisher, Production Manager​

Further studies

The student may, after graduation and a work career of at least three years, continue his/her studies in a Master's degree programme. A Master's degree from a university of applied sciences is a higher post-secondary degree. Studies can also be continued by applying for a university Master's degree programme or similar programmes. After a Bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences, it is also possible to continue studies at higher education institutes abroad in Master's degree level programmes.

In addition, the university of applied sciences offers continuing education possibilities in specialisation studies and in working life-based continuing education. A student who completes an upper post-secondary degree may receive an opportunity for further studies in science or arts at universities (Section 37/558/2009). All further studies must be applied for separately.

Planning

The professional advisory board is a part of the curricula planning group. Also the results of alumni surveys and student feedback are considered in the planning of the implementation of teaching.
